Anyone else got it arriving in the post?

Apparently it's easy just to run upto enemies and headshot them with VATS constantly, hope the story is good then lol.

Looks brilliant though

Fallout 3 is absolutely incredible!
And no, V.A.T.S. doesn't work THAT well since you need a lot of action points to aim your weapon (I love the nod towards the old turn-based combat) and headshots don't always kill your enemy (funny fact: not even "crippling" your enemy's head does - WTF?) so it's not always a viable solution. When you take on enough additional perks you can boost your chance on landing headshots from afar though and THEN the system starts to shine. ^^

Even if you prefer the setting The Witcher or Gothic don't come close to the polished gameplay, story, quests etc. of Fallout 3 - it's like Oblivion (same engine after all) on crack - or better yet, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. done right. Which other game can you think of that starts with your birth and sees you growing up in the prologue? :-D

Sadly I found out that after like two days of playing I'm dangerously close to the main story's ending even though I tried to pursue every possible side-quest I could find...

The Necromancer (4970)
Baal - hah - I thought I was the only one with problems. For me the game crashes from time to time (strangely enough it did that in the beginning and then only crashed once yesterday) and has strange flickering (from time to time as well) on the right side so that the desktop shows through - LOL.

@McMoist - you know, I'm currently in a specific state where I want to play the game so badly that I don't want to play it anymore. :-D
Lemme explain: like I wrote I'm pretty close to the ending (even with all the stuff to do Fallout 3 doesn't seem to be a long game - which isn't bad, I'm all for short but sweet games) and I want to savor every moment of it. :-D
To me "replayability" is a foreign term since I never play through a game more than once unless it's some kind of arcade stuff without any story etc.

I'm pretty awful nowadays to be frank. I never finish anything.

I bought Pure for the Xbox 360 and I played it for a day. Now it's collecting dust. I downloaded Far Cry 2 last Friday and I've done like 3 missions. I dunno what the hell is wrong with me. I've been waiting for FC2 since last year or some shit and now I have it, it gets completely neglected.

Guess I'd just rather have a beer and a wank

Haha i'm a bit like that, nothing like the good old days where i'd play a game to death, only TF2 keeps me commin' back!

FO3 is amazing so far, but the sound is REALLY annoying, it's always going dull, like i've got cloth over my ears, and then removing it. It does it in sentences, so one sentence will be clear as day the next murky.. u can still hear them but it's really annoying... Gun fire always sounds dulled, so far anyway. It's putting me off enjoying it! Stops me immersing myself.

I'll have a looksy, thanks. It's such a simple thing but i always forget to check. I think they're upto date though.
EDIT: apparently my drivers are upto date, when i download the official drivers for my named card,it doesn't install anyway because it's not a proper one.

It was bundled with my mobo so saved me some pennies and got me a top spec mobo, but it's not a "proper" audio card, must be a joke card then. Does a good job though.

I'll just put up with it.

ffs...i read in the internet to get rid of these freezes u should install besides the newest graphics gard driver (which i already did) the newest audio driver...after doin that i can't even start the game anymore...only sumtimes & than i still have that freezing issue...... .___.

at least i'm not the only one with these problems...the official forums are full of these problems...
so i'll have to wait for a patch to play it properly but even than i'll have to wait for a patch compatible f3.exe/f3launcher to play f3 uncut again cuz i'll never play it cut :|

this game drives me fuckin nuts *argh* >____<

The Necromancer (4970)
What makes you think it will be better on the XBox 360? I read that the game has pretty much the same in-game bugs and glitches (of course not freezes or flickers etc. but they will be quickly solved in the next patch).
The system requirements are also easy to stomach since they're virtually the same as Oblivion's. I run the game with the "high" preset on my almost 2 year old machine and have yet to see a single stutter (thanks to the wonderful detail scaling of the Oblivion engine).

The Necromancer (4970)
The main story? Not really. You can have different stats, different equipment and thus use a different approach to certain quests, you can also choose to be evul or goodie-good (which affects certain quests etc.) but in the end the main story is pretty linear and I like that because pure freeform games suck monkey dick and in Fallout 3 you always know where to go next. :-D

However, there is a SHITLOAD of locations to discover and you can easily spend a couple of hours in each (bigger) one - I used the code to unlock all location markers now because I was afraid I might have seen everything and luckily it turned out that I was far from the truth. Now I'm hopping here and there to see what's what - this also saves me the tedious running (you can travel instantly between discovered locations - what a blessing). I like my style because that way I won't have to finish the game multiple times. :-P

The Necromancer (4970)
Luckily I'm not getting any except when I'm shutting down the program. :-P

Ah - another nice thing about the game is how it handles sidequests. They aren't anything original or new BUT are usually used to simply lead you to a new location and on the way you then spot other points of interest where you get more quests etc. If you really speak with everybody in each location, and the dialog is very well written, you can be pretty much sure to see EVERYTHING in the game during the first walkthrough and I love that concept. When I finish a game and read later on that I missed this and that and whatnot I feel as if I'm being slapped in the face and FORCED artificially to re-play the title in question and repeat certain menial stuff I already saw only to discover the remaining 10% of content or so.
In Fallout 3, apparently, you get the full deal and if you skip some sections it's only your choice, not the devs hiding something from you. Hence you can make the game as long or short as you want it to be instead of wasting time on several run-throughs. Fallout 3 basically gives you a lot of freedom in clearly set boundaries and that's exactly how I like it. There's no pondering what to do next, no barren wastelands (pun intended) where you don't see anything interesting for hours etc.

Meh, i'll hold of with buying it, untill they fix the majority of bugs. Can't be bothered to work to get a game working.

Oh, you inexperienced player, you haven't seen hell yet. :-D

By the way - since I have only minimal technical troubles I'm actually more worried about gameplay bugs. E.g. currently I have the population of one whole town glitched out since I chose a certain dialog option that lead to a quest lock-up (items that should have spawned did not)... ^^

I'd be far from calling this a piece of crap - more like a rough diamond. :-P
