Has no REAL life! (2026)
Ok, so after muchos examination ive discovered 4 things about my broken "graphics card"

a) my processor fan hasnt been running at all (also my only fan) since it broke, which measn the 24+ hours of searching, chatting, wordprocessing, 'fixing' and what not has actually been melting my pc. which is nice.

b) my fucked up screen errors indicates a motherboard problem, which is what could be issuing the graphics card error, which could in turn be melted by my lovely non-cooled pc.

c) my psu could be causing all the problems or it could jsut be my fan being a slag.

d) it could just be my graphics card is fucked in the arse.

So my plan you ask? touch myself until it works. and if that doesnt fix it spend my hard earned cash on either repairing it or getting a new one.

Repair wise, im getting a free diagnostic to the actual problem on tuesday, so fingers crossed its the fan.

If however it is my pc's final days i have got a plan.

Heres my new build.

Nvidia GeForce 9800GTX+, 1gb GDDR3, DirectX 10, PCI-Express 2.0 Graphics Card £200
AMD Phenom X4 9950 2.6GHz Black Edition Socket AM2+ 125W 4MB L2 Cache (512KBx4) £136
Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H 780G Socket AM2+ onboard VGA 8 channel audio mATX Motherboard £70
Corsair 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL5 Lifetime Warranty x2 £80
Arctic Power 700W PSU - With PCI-E, 4x SATA, 20+4, ATX12V, 8pin +12V Connectors - Retail Boxed £40
NZXT Hush Black Silent Case £70

Total £596 inc VAT
£518.26 ex vat

Ill be looking at the Ex. VAT price as i can get it through work Ex VAT.
Im also looking pessimistically at my gfx card, as ive seen it priced from anywhere from £120-£200 -> a suprise is better than a dissapointment right? :D
luckily ill be nicking the other ram from my old pc ( this mobo can hold 16gb!?!?! i thought 4 was always overkill tbh...then again i also though so was 2 processors...and a graphics card higher than 8800gts 512... but hey when in rome.)

if theres anything anyone can think of ive missed out pls say - or if u think something is a better replacement, go ahead.

Although NO saint, NO, I am going nvidia and thats that.

Its either that, or get a prebuilt pc with 9950 quad core, 8gb ram and some nameless motherboard/shitecase + 9800gt... which i hear is shite... for £450 ex VAT

with 4gb system ram and 1gb on the GPU don't forget to use Vista 64bit or you won't be able to use more than about 3.5gb.

Also ------- "Although NO saint, NO, I am going nvidia and thats that." - hmm you are using a Nvidia GPU card? did you mean Intel?
