I already tried it out a couple of days ago.

If it stays like this is complete and utter shit! L4D costs 50$ and also costs 50€. All I can say is: wtf?!

The pricings might have gotten better for the UK folks and their weak pound, but for us in the € zone it's gotten worse. If I have the option in the future, I will still choose to pay in $, because the 0.50€ fee for currency exchange is way less than the amount we can save.

Shows as £26.99 for me

Some games had a new (better) euro - dollar rate but 99% don't.. but since it's only a beta I can imagine they will do proper euro prices when they release it~ at least I hope so.. otherwise this is just bullshit~

Ehm personally I don't think they will change it.
It's always been like that in videogames industry; 1€=1$.
Just take a look at the console market...of course we in europe have to pay more then others.

The only positive thing is, that the 49,99€ include VAT (19% in Germany, 20% in Austria), whereas the 49,99$ do not.
But still, the € is worth 42% more than the $, so the 20% included tax don't make up for that at all.

Valve has been violating European consumer laws with their advertising policy up until now. In most European countries it is mandatory that all prices that you advertise with have to be the consumer end prices, that means including all taxes and fees. So when they offer their games for 50$ excl. tax it violates European law, but they don't care because they're US based. At least this has changed now.

Ok, the beta has ended.
The current price for L4D is 45€, that is 62$
50$ + 20% tax = 60$

So the American prices are still better, but only slightly. Slightly enough for me to still buy my games through steam.
