1: Do not flash motherboard BIOS through a 64-bit environment.
2: Actually, just don't flash anywhere but in DOS (unless it's a GPU maybe)
3: Do not flash your video card bios while not having a backup PCI card or you won't be able to see anything and therefore you won't be able to fix it
4: In the bios editor, if you see "buggy" somewhere, GET THE FUCK AWAY
5: Don't flash unless you're having major problems (or the ATI powerplay is being a bitch)


This coming from a guy with 1 sucessful MB bios flash, 1 horribly gone wrong MB bios flash, 1 successful GPU flash, 1 "oops lol looks like a powerplay crash during a bios flash that would fix that crash and it just jammed your card" bios flash.


In other words, you should really be careful. I had to buy a new GPU today since I'm the only one in the house that already uses PCI gpus. 60€ out of the window instantly. Though I'll probably just sell it onwards after I'm done fixing. Oh yeah and I have a 99€ motherboard (the bricked one which I managed to get fixed for free) sitting around that I have to sell.

In all my live i have never had a bios update gone wrong And i did quite a few bios updates till this date.

Although I do have a horrible curse which keeps happening. List of stuff I broke or broke just and only because I used it
- An old radeon card (fan stopped working ages ago, then one day I forgot to turn on the "external ventilation" and the card fried)
- PSU fan failed (at the same time as above, so I had only 1 fan working in the pc)
- Zalman surround sound headphones (right side died)
- Razer copperhead (doubleclick issue)

- Manufacturer's software bricks a motherboard (because of x64 environment) - I have it repaired free of charge
- WD Velociraptor (!) dies after only a few days of use (not long after I order a new mobo while the old one is being repaired for a million years)
- Razer copperhead (doubleclick issue) - fixed it myself

There are probably more things I don't remember. Probably more software-y.

Oh i did break a whole lot of hardware in my live But thats a differant story

Break as in overheat or overuseor something? Or break as in "where did this capacitor come from"?

I did stuff like forgetting to connect the CPU fan, breaking card connectors, sratching mobo's with a screwdriver, connecting ISDN wires to ethernet ports (*poof*) etc etc

I have a feeling that reading this will have grave consequences

In other news, problem for which I used a workaround before and happened because of a powerplay issue, happens again after using the fix and suddenly the workaround doesn't help.

I think I've flashed about 200 motherboards Bios' and about 15 or 20 GPU's... Comes with the job sadly.

In fact, the most reliable way of doing it is in a 32bit windows environment when you are ONE-HUNDRED-PERCENT-SURE that the ROM/BIN file you downloaded is ABSOLUTELY THE CORRECT ONE for your mobo. Use the Mobo manufacturers update utility and try disable every program you have from running in the background - But unless you're clued up on DOS and are happy using boot floppies, windows is the easiest way.

Make absolutely sure you get the exact motherboard Model correct and just as importantly, the Rev' (revision) number. Otherwise be prepared to buy a new board or do some soldering to replace your BIOS chip (unless you have a dual bios).
