Turn it all you like but these ARE valid right or left wing points - if they aren't discussed in Europe then it just means that we are (usually) further left than the USA or more liberal, which doesn't mean that the "global" political assessment should be shifted all of the sudden.

Personally i don't see religious ethics coming into right or left wing so i feel my results tainted by the questions, as you say, American centric, as religion is a big issue for them.

All political leaders i aspire to / are inspired by have been right wing.

Kinda wierd if i come out Marxist!

edit: "i agree with everything you say, however i am left wing so i contridict myself"

Sorta thing :P

It's not a question whether YOU see religion as a political issue or not, it's a question whether it has something to do with a country being conservative/liberal (left and right wing has to do with the given country's economy) on a global scale - and yes, it does and no, it's not unique to the US. Consider some Arab states or even Poland, where the church has a great deal of influence.

That is pretty much specific to all the eastern european countries.

There is no such thing as a global political awareness. How left/right is defined is different for most countries.

And that's all that I said: this graph shows my political alignment only by US standards and not by European standards.

Nope - it just means that Europe has a much "flatter" political landscape, leaning more to the left and liberalism in general, where the major issues have long been dropped and nowadays it pretty much doesn't matter if you're left or right or authoritarian or liberal. The prime example of this is e.g. the grand coalition in Germany between CDU and SPD.
It's not about a "global political awareness", it's about how left and right are defined in political studies - of course you'd be described differently in different countries because e.g. the whole nation would be so far right that even the slightest pro-social initiative would be considered to be very left-wing.
This doesn't change the fact that the placement on this political graph is accurate. Again I must stress that while the questions are pretty specific and apply to many topics that are hotly debated in America, the overall assessment after giving the answers is correct on a global scale because it doesn't matter if these issues are being discussed in your country or not - the answers to them clearly reflect authoritarian or liberal values etc. E.g. so what that the death penalty is out of the question in Europe? If you agree or disagree with it you still define your political alignment correctly. Or mottoes like "the freer the economy, the freer the people" are clear indicators whether you're leaning towards left or right - no matter your country's politics or the fact how you would be described in your country compared to other people.

Demm is correct here.

Politics in Europe and political standpoints mean completely different things to their namesakes in America.

IT should be universal - but unfortunately for the surveyors its not.

Politics and political standpoints are geographical and therefore so is their markings on graphs and the what not.

Edit: Oh and in the UK 2/3 of the main parties (well. 2/2 lib dems dont count) are right wing. And LibDems are centrist...Thats according to "universal" assossiactions of policy etc, although they are in the UK , Left-LEftycentre-right wing. Kinda proves the point and shows that we aren't "lefty liberals" in europe by universal definition :/
