Holy shit.

Their current config is almost better than my not-very-old gaming rig (they have a quad, I have duo and I have a better hdd)

I mean, I know they're pretty much working with just computers, but they have like 150 employees and they change computers every 18 months? That's like... if every computer is 1k, that's like 100k per year! EVERY year!

Damn.

The Necromancer (4970)
Uhm - compared to their revenue and considering that computers are the driving force behind the company that's absolutely nothing.
I change my computer around every 24 months although my planned config will be worse than the future config for Valve...

From what I understand Valve's full-time employees might be fewer than you think because they always say that they're very project oriented and bring people on board only for certain games - I don't know how many workstations they actually have... But still the first and foremost argument above holds.

Actually I just noticed something

They're changing to 64 bit vista

I wouldn't mind, taking over one of their old computers, as that config is already way better then my 2y old AMD setup.

The Necromancer (4970)
Yeah, pretty much the same as my planned setup. I will of course overclock the i7 920 to oblivion. ^^

... some "people" don't have the benefit of an enormous savingsaccount...
Getting myself just the basic things (MOBO/CPU/GFX/RAM) already costs around 600 - 700 euro's.. especially the MOBOS for the i7 are way to expensive for my taste.
