On a fluid site, surely just reducing the size of your IE/FF window solves the problem if you don't like it being too wide?

Keep it fluid and resize with that little corner grab :P

Size the fourm and fonts in em's that way they'll scale together and you'll beable to do a fixed fluid hybrid.

personally I think the line length on most forums is far too long anyway so for preference I'd say fixed width.
