Somehow, my TF2 has super-muted itself. The sound works fine in L4D, in windows, in f00bar in everything, but when I enter tf2 it all goes silent. Not a single bullet can be heard, and it is so fucking annoying. Anyone know anything? I've been googling about for a while, but can't seem to find a solution.

delete the config file and restart. Or try turning volume up in settings. Or something.

Are you running speakers ?

If so, check output settings!

I run 5.1 speakers, and if I set the output to "Stereo", "2xStereo", "Movie" or "Music", I don't get any sound in TF2, although I do in other games.
But when I set the output to 6 channels the sound in TF2 re-emerges.

This is a new'ish issue with TF2, btw!

didn't work.

Got it to work after some hours of random re-installing, uninstalling, touching myself and screaming.
