Hmm, maybe not Illiterate (16)
Heey guys,

Tried to connect to one of the servers today in the morning, but i get kicked out because TF2 loses the connection to my Steam ID ... has this something to do with the new update of steam or ... ?

Can't seem to figure it out on my own, have searched for it but was not able to find something on this. Someone has the same problem? Or even better, does anyone know how I can solve this?

Greetz mr fnky perks!

Needless told me yesterday that they had the same problem during a clanwar on a completely different server... Might be some trouble on Valve's side.

Ivé tried loggin out of steam and loggin on again.

And removed my client .....blob file from the steam folder, it seems to be a problem with steam .. after i removed the .blob file and i started steam it suddently started to update the (steam)client, so somehow the update of yesterday (or the day before) was not installed on my computer.

Steam topic i used:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/s ... p?t=689168

Weird, im going to test if i am able to stick to the server now :)

Hi,

If you get disconnected please open your console and paste the last 10-20 lines or so here.

Cheers

It's a steam server problem. Nothing you can do but wait until they fix it!

Well, invalid steamuserID means that your account isn't recognised by the steam servers. This can be because you don't own the game, or more likely, because the server where your data is stored is currently inaccessible!

Try delete your clientregistery.blob file in your steam directory and restart steam.

I just checked the mailing list, there are tons of server admins reporting this issue for their servers.

No, no! Don't delete clientregistry.blob unless it's absolutely necessary. One of the Valve devs said that deleting this file is used as a "cure-all" for all Steam problems but you shouldn't do anything to it too hastily - it's basically Steam's equivalent of the Windows registry and contains some important information.

Just wait it out since EVERYBODY had this problem yesterday evening and it can't be that everybody's Steam client got f00ked up. ;-)

From Whisper's Wiki:
Quote:
The number one thing that you have to know about Steam however is that clientregistry.blob that is located in the main Steam directory is the equivalent of the Windows Registry. It stores everything from user names and passwords, to what games an account owns, what content servers they currently have access to and a whole lot more. Therefore, if you ever have a problem in regards to the Steam client then it's best NOT to delete this straight up.

Follow the following steps if you have an issue with Steam:

* Shut down the Steam client
* Browse to your Steam install folder
* Delete Steam.dll
* Restart Steam

If this does not solve your issue, then repeat the same steps with clientregistry.blob. Both of these files will be automatically remade and this 'fixes' many problems.

Valve developer John McCaskey posting that deleting clientregistry.blob is generally a bad idea.

Yeah - ALL the players are dropping from our servers - ask Needless, Revenge or Akix - I was playing with them yesterday when the problem started.

You know why valve advices against it? Because the blob file contains the content server you connect to, or atleast in some way controls it. They don't want people messing about with that.

I have a collection of blob files i use for the servers whenever they get shitty update download speeds.

I think there are more reasons for that - there must be more data in a file of around 1 MB in my case. =)

By the way - apparently Valve had some scheduled maintenance yesterday and they probably messed something up. You can see heavy user fluctuations on their Steam Stats page as well...

As a matter of fact I haven't deleted my clientregistry.blob file for several years now - even when I moved Steam to a new system. =)
So far all the problems I had were solved by Valve doing something on their part. I never get slow download speeds for new content either, so perhaps the .blob file helps to optimize your content server settings. You never know and hence I choose to trust a Valve developer instead of internet rumors. ;-)

You shoudln't tbh, cause all the player stats etc are saved on the steam servers. I've never really lost anything by removing the file. Only always fixed stuff for me.

Don't worry - I used to delete this file all the time as well until I was told not to and both I and my Steam installation are still alive, so if everything is working fine then you're OK. The worst-case scenario would be that something breaks after deleting clientregistry.blob, which apparently didn't happen, and then you would have to blame yourself. ;-)

Yeah it all seems to be workin perfect ... the game stats etc, are saved online en seem to be downloaded again ;) ... I think its just a local copy form your online profle ;) .. noth special about i think. (Tho i surfed to the Steam FAQ today, and that tells you to remove the .blob file also) ..

Anyways, the game runs again, prolly a problem at valve yes since nothin i did solved the probs :o
