What Lim-Dul said is true, the server SHOULD be marked as a non-crit server, I've been wondering quite a lot about why it isn't marked.

It's marked by the sv_tags system.

very few look at these, and it's like saying here's a report about sex, then you'd think it's about sex, but if you have to read the fine print to see it's actually about sexual deseases.

my point is, that it attracts a different crowd than the normal pub players, and the normal pub players would expect something different,

when they then notice that it's a non-crit server a couple would leave, and with the upcomming server ranking system from valve this is going to turn out negative. with people joining and then leave.

Which is only useful when joining random servers from the in-game server browser, not the global one, not to mention the favorites section... Are you afraid that people might not join the server if it was properly marked as a nocrit server?

Well - at least that would say something about the popularity of this concept and probably fill the other servers quicker (e.g. the UK one :-P). Otherwise I feel as if we cheated people into joining this custom server to a certain extent, especially since no critical hits aren't readily apparent like ETMI observed.
We can't wonder that Valve is undertaking more and more drastic measures against gameplay altering servers then...

Might I ask what the motivation behind not modifying the server name is? You surely have given it some thought, Saint, because we had properly tagged servers before and there has to be a reason for this change.
I think it would only be fair to everybody, both the people who like criticals and ones who don't, if we informed them upfront what type of game they are about to join - that way the nocrit aficionados could flock to Server #3 and the others to Servers #1,2,4 without ever wondering what the hell is happening. ;-)

You know - Server #4 is "tagged" as a UK server in the name and following your logic it wouldn't need to be - why should people know about that if they can simply look at the ping column and realize that it is in a different country than the rest...

P.S. Aren't ALL of our servers tagged anyways because of the increased player counts (and some minor spawn time alterations if I'm not mistaken)? This only adds to the confusion since you need to really investigate the tags to realize what kind of server you're dealing with.

Update: Yeah, I checked and our servers are indeed all tagged - the info about their peculiarities gets lost in all of them, especially since they don't even fit in the "tags" row. Nocrits is nocrtis but the server also runs with disabled damage spread and together they alter the usual FFA gameplay quite a bit, changing it more to a clan-war type experience (which is what the proponents of the server wanted to achieve after all).

But probably 95% players will join server thinking it's a normal one, I agree with Lim - if server 4 can be marked as [UK] I think #3 should be marked [no crits] ;] Do it and I will never join it by accident and moan about it everywhere :ugly:

People stupid enough not to look at the tags when joining a server they didn't previously play on should get punished for their stupidness.
And people that are even more stupid and have played on that server already and still don't know it's no-crits should be punished even more.

The sad truth about humanity is that by and large people are stupid, hence you should follow the safe design principle. :-P

What's the map rotation now and class limits?

I think the server name should be different...

Let's introduce a new server category like we did with the bball servers. Now server's #3 name is the same as #1 and #2 but they are totally different. Something like "SpecialAttack.net :: cp maps/nocrits #1". Nocrits should be mentioned. If someone is looking fast he doesn't look at server tags. When I search a random server I sort them by map and join the one with ~10players (if i see nocrits at the name it's a +).
+ a bit less slots.

there is no way to check any fucking tags. I click on Steam -> Server and then Favs or Friends. Then I can see IP, player count, map and Valve Cheat shit. No more... no less.

They are visible when you launch the server browser in-game (which I never do ;-)... And only if you use the "Internet" tab... And even then our servers have so many tags that, coupled with the fact that you can't resize columns (WTF?), you can't see all of them at once.
