I have a:
AsusP5e mobo
Q9450@2.66
4x1gb ddr2 1066 corsair dominator
Gainward 8800gts512
Thermaltake Toughpower 600w power supply
About 1 week ago I got a bluescreen saying something about memory management, windows stopped booting, I tried to install windows again but I got the same bluescreen.
I opened up my pc and took out a pair of ram sticks(I bought them as pairs), the computer started working again, I then tried the 2 sticks I took out but it didn't work, tried the 2 working sticks in every slot configuration and they worked in all slot configurations. I concluded it's the sticks and and not one of my mobo's slots so I took the pair to service.
Today I got new ram from service, I put them in and the pc wouldn't start, the monitor remained black and there was no start up beeping sound, nor were there any error beeps. I tried each stick individually in each slot and and each of the 4 possible pairs in all slot configurations and it worked every time. When trying with 3 or 4 sticks it stopped working.
I tried leaving the voltages and timings on auto and setting them manually but it still wouldn't start with more then 2gb.
Any ideas what else I should try to get it working? Could something other then a broken mobo be causing this?

Corsair has good support, you might just wanna check on their site.


Also, you did check the mobo manual if the ram is compatible, riiight?

The replacement ram is the same as the old ram and it worked for almost 1year with all 4 old sticks so yes it's compatible.
Could the ram be the problem? All sticks work they just don't work if i use all 4 together , they even work if I use 1gb of the old ram paired with 1gb of the new ram.
If the ram is not the problem I'm not sure corsair support would be able to help.

I'm not entirely sure why it came to mind, but if you've overclocked the thing it might be to do with your ram timings? it's a long shot though.

I've had similar probs in the past with putting memory in all four slots.

I've using all 4 slots doesn't always give you the best compatability - I've just used the two main slots and never had any probs. Try looking for a bios update they sometimes improve memory compatability.

If I leave the bios settings on auto the ram is set to a lower frequency(800) by default so I have to manually set it, but all the settings I've made aren't over the ram's recommended settings (1066 5-5-5-15 2T 2.1v) I haven't experimented yet with other manual settings, leaving everything on auto makes no difference, it works with 2gb it doesn't with 4gb.
I found other people with exactly the same mobo and ram and almost exactly the same problem:

The only difference is I can't make it boot with 4gb, while this guy says he is able to boot sometimes. What I find very weird is the fact that it worked for almost 1year perfectly with 4gb.
I'll probably go tomorrow to the shop and see if they'll exchange my ram for similar ram from another brand.
Updated the bios to latest version still the same thing.

That is the joys of being a PC owner.

Sorry I can't think of anything else to try. When I've got to this stage I normally end up swaering, and start saving for a new mobo.
