Regarding the game why UT2k4 and not ut3 ? which is the latest in the series (better graphics )

because 2k4 = better

Problem with hosting a ut2k4 server is that I myself , for example, am only interested in the vehicle supported maps. Like capture the flag with vehicles, warfare, duel, those kind of modes. In total you have something like 5 modes? As soon as we start hosting a server you'll see that it's a bitch to get a server filled with one of those modes and that you always tend to start hosting DM or TDM, which are game modes I'm really not interested in.
If we do start hosting a server and if it would be one of the interesting modes, I'll join on our server, otherwise I'll keep on playing on other ppl's servers who are already populated and who host my favorite game modes

imo if we start hosting(which we do), we should get a server which we can use if we get a few ppl that wanna play a game, no matter what gamemode. just make it password protected and set everything we want on it. 2k4 is too old to start a new server, which you wanna make popular, everyone already has a few favorite servers which they will join..

that could be an option yeah, but I doubt we get a lot of ppl together that would wanna play it. Or it happens once or twice that you get a server filled with friends and after that no one will play on it anymore. I'd rather not go through all the fuss and just play on the servers that are already there.

Why not arrange a date that we all play it together every now and then? Like we had the custom map weekend and SpA vs Community matches.. make it an event
There should be enough people to play with, maybe not the super big maps.. but enough

And I did rate it 1 - 2k4.. if I wanted it lower I could have said -1000 to 2k4.. I'd rate it -1000.. which would ultimately be the same score (lowest).. just a different number

how long did you guys play ut3?
Cuz ut3 is way better.
First of all, you have a hover board in ut3 which saves you on an hour long walk without being able to shoot anyone, which you do have in ut2004.
2nd of all, the graphics difference is like the first quake and the last quake, ut3 looks far better.
3rd, gameplays are better.
4th, the vehicles in ut3 are just frightning, good looking, awesome powers. The vehicles in ut2004 are poor.
If i had to give both games and count the original ut got in it this would be it:

UT GOT: 7
UT 2004: 5
UT3: 8.5

You guys clearly haven't played all gameplays of ut3 and gave it a good play to form an opinion about it

There's a good reason that ut2k4 has a larger fanbase than ut3.. ut3 wasn't selling very well so they brought out the black pack..

I agree that ut3 looks great.. but I've been playing ut since the first game and ut3 does not feel like it at all.. it just seems targeted at a completely different audience (the ones saying their e-penis has better graphics I bet) and I enjoyed ut2k4 better (as with most people)

Not saying it's a bad game.. just that ut2k4 is way better in my opinion.. now let's get to playing O;

UT3 just seems slow gameplay wise, where-as 2k4 seems a lot faster and fluid. Graphics are nothing without exciting gameplay. I don't play either anyway so it doesn't matter to me :3

yeah, gameplay = key. i rather pick a game that hasnt the best graphics with an awesome gameplay than a game that looks insane but with shit gameplay.

a good reason why ut3, wasnt that popular is because its too based on warfare. most ut players are TDM/DM players. they dont care about massive alien walkers that is shooting beams. the core should have been TDM/DM based gameplay and with warfare it would have been a great game.

i know you love the big vehicles and the warfare gamemode, but i dont care much for that gamemode. if you play a normal TDM match 2k4 is superior to ut3. i deffo gave the game a chance, but the more i played the more i started disliking it. somehow it just didnt feel right. 2k4 was a fast paced tactical game(Shield gun FTW). ut3 slowed down and basically forced you to play warfare because you wanted to have action so you had to jump into a vehicle or hoverboard so you could get to the action fast.

I'm a DM and TDM player aswell, right since competitive Quake1 play...

...TDM actually has a really odd team dynamic, that once it's understood is a lot of fun.



I've experimented with running old game servers before - It's a failing idea. You just won't attract interest hosting a 2k4 server.
Think about it; the 2k4 regulars all have their servers/clans/communities. UT3 is on reduced price and increased attention, so all the newbs's will be on that. I'm afraid you just can't consistently populate a 2k4 server.
There shouldn't be any issue or question here. If we host a UT game, it has to be the most recent or we're appealing to a dead market.

The server is only ment for when we want to have a game together Its not ment as something we run like tf2/l4d.

U guys do have a point there. I have been playing the first ut till my fingers bleed, but I loved that game mode in the first one where you had to destroy all kinds of things. TDM and DM don't bother me too much anymore, I just don't like it much anymore. So some of the ut3 game modes were ideal for me
