Hey I have a problem with my ati card... I have an ATI HD 3870 and when I play Lotro it seems to get really hot (70-80C) this is really iritating cause its causing my vga to "resest". In other words my screen goes black and after 5 sec or so it turns back to normal. do you guys have any idea how to fix this?

no the cad isnt overclocked. It came from asus and has its own "build on top" cooler: CLICK It happend to me to an other game too but it was a stupid game so i couldnt be arsed!

The other coolers in my system are: on top of my cpu and a normal system fan to get an airflow in my machine

This only should make a difference if the focker is really, really dirty. ^^

hd3870x2 is the card I have, turns hot as well. What you can do , is install rivatuner, run it and make it run with every startup ( you can edit this in the programme itself).
What you wanna do then is set the fan speeds. Ati has the urge to let your fan run almost silent but in the mean time, doesn't cool that much. The standard fan speed is on 25%, the fan starts to make a racket F'ed up noise above 48%. I usually run it on 40% (when it boots it is on this speed now) and when I really want it to keep cool while running haevy games I set it to 47%. Right mouse click on the rivatuner icon and if you made launcher profiles, you can easily choose your profile and accordingly fan speeds.

Sounds like a driver crashing.

Perhaps try to do a clean deinstall and install then the newest drivers. Google should give howtos on this.

Illiterate (14)
Open up your PC, Clean all the dust and crap out of the case and heatsinks. If you can install more fans do it. If your card has any overclocking on it that you have done take it off and try that.

I would also check any fans you have in there to make sure there working the right way and not stoping an airflow. Ie one blowing in from the front and the back one sucking out not blowing in.

I dont know why its reseting, my 8800gtx ideas at 40 to 60, when in game it can get up to 70+ no prob and is ok. One thing that I might have thats different to yours is my case.

this is not a temp issuee anymore
Goldfist, you could also just install the previous drivers, sometimes that also fixes the problem.

70 C isn't that hot for a graphics card when under load.
