The forum is currently being invaded by spambots. We're working on a solution. Please notify us if they happen to start send PM spam. From what i can see currently all they do is sign up fake users with spam messages in its profile. We're removing the accounts as soon as we they have signed up.

Couldn't you just enable validation for now?

Yes, or implement some bot checker @ registration. :4

Hmm... seems to be a more global issue. Got spam from the Psychostats and another gaming forum.

Nerdish, tbh. (455)
Hey i had to tackle this problem on a forum I ran for a few months
The sollution i used eventualy (after upgrading the capcha to IQ120+ and having ppl complain about it :P )
Was using email verification:
Most spam account were from Cn domain at that time so i could filter them out. Took me 10 min every week (not that much applications.)

The problem is that while the spam send is from a bot, the capcha is mostly just red by a 1 dollar a day making chinese workslave so increasing it wont help
(in my experience..)

There is another way - porn/torrent/warez sites usually copy the image and require you to "solve" the capcha to enter the site and view the content. The whole process is automated and when you submit the capcha solution they just reuse it. There is a nice google talk on this topic - this is actually called human computation.

You could set 2 input fields in your form, and set them hidden. Users can't see them and won't fill them out, bots see them and mostly cant resist filling them in, So when the fields are filled in when the form gets posted you just deny it :)
