Gothic is popular in Romania? I didn't know that. Nevertheless, Gothic I and II are really the best RPGs ever.

Yes, but I never heard of their success and I once read an article in which the author complaining that Gothic's popularity is limited to Germany.

According to fun or time spent:

Half-Life 2
Team Fortress 2
Warcraft 3
Diablo 2
May Payne 2
World of Warcraft
Portal
Fallout 2, one of the few singleplayer games I played through multiple times, an amazing feat
Dwarf Fortress, a free game developed by one person that allows you to control of group of dwarves, building a fort. Or deathtraps. With ASCII graphics. :ugly:

Honorable mentions:

World of Goo
KotoR 2 but it was just so buggy and the end is complete crap because half of it was cut out

And because someone mentioned the Nintendo 64 :4 :

Goldeneye multiplayer
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Perfect Dark multiplayer

Bonus Section: My SNES and SEGA Genesis favorites, because many games mentioned here are not really that "recent" :D :

Secret of Evermore / Lufia / Terranigma
Sonic 3 & Knuckles

Yeh, I remember reading in some article that the games didn't do too well on sales. It's a damn shame if you ask me especially since the first Gothic brought a great deal of new interesting stuff in the cRPG genre like the social life cycle for npcs.

I was amazed by the atmosphere created in the game, especially in Gothic I. However, if you considered getting Gothic III. Don't do it, it sucks. It became a repetitive and boring game, full with unfixed bugs.

I torrented it to give it a try and gave up after the first minutes in the game. I'm not going to go throught the hassle of playing or let alone buy a game that's so unfinished.

The community recently created a very big patch...the game is now 75% fixed. You should download it ;)

But it was only for the German version, wasn't it? For anyone speaking German, here's a review of the add-on (Not by Piranha Bytes, but by another company.):
http://forum.minenkolonie.de/showthread.php?t=1320

It mainly points out that the add-on is even worse due to even more bugs.
