Hi Saint K.

That IP address has indeed been delisted from the Steam Master Servers. When an IP is delisted, it delists all servers on that IP regardless of what game they are running.

This IP was delisted because of this TF2 server:
85.17.60.96:26065 SpecialAttack.net :: ctf_bball2 #3 I see that you have two other servers running ctf_bball2 that are both in danger of the ban threshold themselves. All of your other servers are in good standing.

We'll repeal the ban, but please consider tweaking your ctf_bball2 servers to keep this from happening again.

Thanks,
Phillip Saltzman

Subject: [hlds_linux] L4D servers de-listed or what?

Hi,

We have L4D forked servers running off 2 machines.

Servers running off IP 85.17.239.149 work flawlessly, their full most of the time.

Servers running off 85.17.60.96 get NO traffic whatsoever, are not visible in our steam group and won't be picked up when using sv_search_key

At 85.17.60.96 are also some 9 TF2 servers, all operating just fine without a problem.

The l4d configs on both machines are an exact match accept for server names (numbers).

Any idea why the 16 forked servers on 85.17.60.96 are being kept off the master list?

Cheers

Yes, we see activity now again at L4D aswell.

This also explains why we got virtually no new traffic on our TF2 servers....

A lot of people join bball just for a quick game, so I guess this new system rates them badly because people go on for a quick game (this system valve have see it as people leaving because of problems on the server, so it's flawed in this way). How can they expect people to play bball for hours on end? It's not the point of the mod, and our bball servers are very popular, you get some pretty decent players playing on it :/

You should point this out to them saint, because the bball mod servers will be wiped from TF2 if they are all delisted due to this...

The Necromancer (4970)
LOL! Mystery solved!
However, two thumbs down for Valve. It's OBVIOUS that with their current rank system the bball servers will be delisted since this is such a quick game...

Does that mean that the bball servers will have to be removed if we want the other servers to do well? That's quite ridiculous!

They would need a separate IP so that they don't influence the other servers... nevertheless their system is crap in this way. Judging mods the same way as "normal" servers... is... meh... o_O

Or you put 1 bball server with about 3 other "normal" servers. The normal servers will likely not get into the delisting zone and will therefore carry the bball server. However, this wouldnt really be a solution :?

If it worked that way they wouldn't have delisted servers 1, 1.5, 2, no critt 1 etc.

In this case everything got delisted, tf2, l4d, pub-priv servers.

The Necromancer (4970)
What they should have done is track not only the IP but the port as well - I mean, this wouldn't be too much of a challenge if the system was designed properly...

It will take fucking AGES to re-gain our server rank after this disaster. This is ironic since our servers are, by default, pretty popular.

We could but i don't think that sorts anything. VALVe will have to come up with a solution first.

Also, the password-thingy was only when they made the graphs they used to illustrate. Don't know if they ignore servers with passwords now.

Hope you manage to solve this with VALVe!

If VALVe won't sort it we'll order an extra IP and throw the bball's on that.

Hi Saint K.
You are right, the bball servers are definitely a legitimate game mode and we don't want to discourage it. We're looking at ways to tweak our algorithm to keep these servers from showing up as bad. In the meantime, you can put those servers back up if you'd like. Now that we're aware of the problem we'll look out for it before we ban more servers.

Thanks,
Phillip Saltzman
bball2 servers are back online!
