Even WoW is better than this drop system. At least in WoW you can target specific bosses for specific items, here its just decided by the whimsical TF2 gods.
Yeah, you know - the downside of the system is: I can't really be angry with the system itself since it's a virtual entity. Valve is also just a corporation and I can't single out anybody at whom to rage. What follows is that the unlocks trigger an unhealthy feeling of envy, frustration and anger when another player gets something you want. Especially somebody who entered the game and got a new unlock after 15 minutes while you've been playing for 10 hours straight.
This also divides the player base into people who are happy with the new system since they got everything relatively quickly and the poor suckers who don't seem to be getting the new unlocks... I wish Valve had thought about the logical implications the system in its unfinished form would bring with it.
But well - I'm patient... I just wish I wouldn't have to play so much for getting the unlocks since I don't really have that much time to do it. :-\
