Hey all
Long time no post for me =)

Anyway, bought a reserve slot for the first time yesterday but it doesn't appear to do anything? It shows that I bought it in the shop and I am logged in in TF2 (obv or I'd get no points!) but I am still blocked from joining games and still get kicked now and then.

Suggestions?

the reserve slots works just fine, I used it last... uhm.. this morning, you are aware of how to use it yes?

if the server is full and you want to use it you have to open your console and type (connect "server ip" ) e.g to connect to server 2, type " connect 85.17.60.96:27035 "

hope it helps

Or you can just use our game menu generator for easy access to your reserved slot:

This is going to sound like a stupid question :P If SpA own the servers/hardware is there any reason well the player slots aren't higher? or would that mean increasing the amount spent on bandwidth?

The Necromancer (4970)
According to Saint's recent post we are indeed approaching our traffic limits but first and foremost the slots have been decreased by popular demand. Most SpA regulars (including me) don't like playing on e.g. 30 slot servers which are simply too crowded. Remember that TF2 has been designed on a 24 slot assumption.

IF we got the servers filled on a regular basis (the current situation isn't indicative given the free weekend and 50% price drop) I bet Saint would set up additional ones but so far he follows the reasonable politics of not setting up more servers than we can fill since there's always some management work connected to each one.

Tickle my balls and call me skippy that was a quick answer  Would it be viable in that instance then to shutdown the L4D servers but have a system whereby if requested they can be turned on, thus freeing up bandwidth to use on the TF2 servers allowing for a slot increase or another TF2 server altogether (Assuming the current influx of players continues past the free weekend)

A quick glance shows only half the L4D servers currently being used so in theory you could use the bandwidth they are using on TF2 instead?

Empty servers aren't using much bandwidth. ^^
Also - I don't think the bandwidth itself is the problem, it's the amount of traffic we generate.

As lim-dul says, bandwidth and space are not an issue.(The bill is going up recently thought, this month we're allowed 2TB and are currently expecting 3.5-4TB with 10 cents per 1GB fine, do the math) If we grow beyond our current capacity we'll simply buy more hardware and get more bandwidth (when a community grows the funds tend to grow as well allowing for these expantions). The server capacity will grow along with the amount of players we serve daily. If the situation would remain as now for example (which it prolly won't cause after class updates and free weekends you always have much more traffic) when the servers are filled all the time, we'd install some more TF2 servers or get more hardware. (On that note, we are hitting a capacity limit on MrBlonde soon).

The L4D servers we host are mainly hosted of differant machines. A couple of servers are running on [SpA]_9mmNL's machine. Some (will be, moved to allow more space for TF2) run on our machine wich currently runs all non-gameserver aplications. (Re)moving the last remaining L4D servers on MrBlonde would only make space for one or two more TF2 server i think.

I tend to keep some space left over on MrBlonde for 2 reasons; 1. is to ensure the performance of the current servers. You could keep adding servers but with each new server you'd be taking away some performance of the others. We rather keep the performances as good as we can. 2. is that we'd like to keep some space for atleast 1 adittional server for some other game, as large community you often notice alot of requests for a certain game. If the amount of people requesting something is large enough, we can setup a server right away for your gaming plesure.

I was going to write a 2 line reply, but i guess i've been infected with lim-dul.
