German ministers have today agreed to ban the production and distribution of all violent video games, with the law only having to go through parliament in the next few weeks.
[qoute]The law is meant to come into effect before the country's federal elections in September. ... For the law to become a reality it must go through parliament in the next few weeks or months.[/quote]

Wow ... this is the most stupid thing I've heard in a long time :| Is there something you can do, I don't know, petition, burning down the parlament ... Because this would really suck for you.

P.S.: I know, you can still download and play, but problably steam will be forced to block games you already legally own etc

They've been banning games altogether or bits of them for a while now. I have no ideea what's up with it. I mean, I'm sure they allow violent movies or music? They are entertainment afterall.

Its an old age story which i studied in media.

Games are basically said to be more interactive in their violence sections and are beleived to have a greater effect on people , mainly children , than tv or other forms of violent media

Well I agree with children rating but they're talking about banning them from adults as well.

Well we can only wait and see , if u want a petition , ill sign.

But to be honest , it is very very unlikely they will succesful ban them , especially with such huge gaming coorporations in the world these days. they probably control the countries more than the governments

Money control governments. Except for EA, Blizzard and Valve none other really has the money it takes to do lobbying.

btw, question for ze german friends since I'm curious, was the Meet the Spy video censored there? xD

I heard that the guns fire little blocks of love at your enemies in German shooter games.

Our politicians are stupid. But thats old news. :18

They wonder why the CSU lost 17% in the Bavaria state election 2008 and got their worst result since 1954.
Maybe people are fed up with all the shit you guys are saying?
Seriously, if you dont know anything about computer games, you shouldn't talk about them. "_Killergames_ as bad as child pornographie" "Ban killergames" They dont even have a definition for the word, they just use it whenever they talk about computer games.

Luckily we gaming generation people do consist of people over 18 and we can vote and we are more than you can ever imagine. I hope everyone takes part in the democratic process.

Oh really?

Here's what our Minister of DEFENCE did in China.

Yes, he went to China to talk about guns and war and nukes and Russia and ended up doing that. You can ofc expect the chineese counterpart to take him seriously.

Controversy and the games industry go hand in hand like Ico and Yorda, if you'll forgive the incredibly nerdy analogy, and like Yorda, the controversy tends to stay focused for an average of about 8 nanoseconds before getting bored and drifting off to do something else. But when it does get focused, it can get very exasperating, such as when youthful paragons of self-control are called nasty names, and decide that murder would be the wittiest comeback, and then is found to have stood next to a video game at some point in the past. Then the media generally start drooling the usual uninformed questions as to whether wholesome boyish pretend violence has any correlation with the real world. Short answer: No. Long answer: No, and go fuck yourselves, you ignorant scare-mongering cockbags.
