The Necromancer (4970)
Not even on Mumble - Windows Live automatically assumes you want to use your mic - you may turn it off but it's too much of a hassle to turn it on and off all the time (the setting is buried quite deeply)...

As to SF2 - I played it a lot but now when I look back now using emulators etc. I feel that times have really moved forward. IMHO there's not a single thing the Street Fighter Alpha series or SFIII or now SFIV isn't better at than SF2... The nostalgia factor always plays a huge role in this...

When it comes to online play - yeah, it's frustrating. I had some great matches now but certain tactics simply don't work online and it's annoying because you aren't actually upping your game. E.g. the netcode frequently breaks your combos, especially links, by mistiming inputs so that people mashing Shoryukens or Piledrivers can get back at you easily the fancier you're trying to be - basically it makes no sense to use LKs and LPs at all, which is sad, because that's exactly how I wanted to improve my game. Anything but the simplest of combos are actively discouraged. Not least because of the combo damage scaling - looking at the data in training mode I found out that doing fancier combos often results in LESS overall damage, especially for characters with multi-hit moves. Prime example - jump-in HK -> crouching MK -> HK Tetsu does LESS damage than simple jump-in HK -> HK Tetsu for Ken. That's a bit... Hmm... Strange.

By the way - under comparable circumstances it actually feel to me as if games played over Kaillera - emulated games that were never meant to be played online - feel more responsive... The good news is that apparently Capcom bought out GGPO.net - an online emulation system that had VERY nice lag-compensation features and served/serves as the primary meeting place for arcade aficionados. Perhaps they will patch up the netcode a bit and I predict that they will use GGPO.net technology e.g. in the upcoming XBLA release of Marvel vs Capcom 2.

Hey - if you're not into fighting games that's no shame. It's not the kind of game you fire up and are immediately naturally awesome. ;-)

The Necromancer (4970)
He can spam moves! It got me some wins against people who don't know how to handle them. ^^

By the way - the grand final a recent (19.06.09) Nakano TRF Tournament in Tokyo - many of Japan's top players attend it on a bi-weekly basis. Players like Daigo, Shiro, Mago etc. participated in this one.

The fight is between Nemo, Japan's best Chun-Li player, ranked 5th overall and Tetsu, my favorite El Fuerte player - he has beaten some big names on the way to the final, e.g. Shiro, the world's best Abel (ranked 6th in Japan).

Crazy shit right there. The quality is poor because this is a re-encoded live stream.

"Nemo-to-saaan? *wub wub wub wub*" 1:27 LOL @ Japanese commentator. ;-)

In the second round Tetsu uses Fuerte's infamous infinite combo loop twice but he only repeats it thrice at a time - makes no sense to keep it up infinitely since after several hits the damage would become minuscule and any whiff would leave him wide open.

The previous match against Shiro was quite epic too.

Note how Tetsu slides people into position after knock-down with the Habanero Dash to set them up for his moves. ^^

And if anybody wonders "hey, these guys aren't really THAT good, I could play like them", then I invite you to watch this video which illustrates what happens when a random player challenges a Japanese arcade pro (in this case Nanashi playing Akuma/Gouki - he was defeated by Tetsu later in the tournament):

Rufus is crazy - despite being fat he's quite nimble and still has the second highest HP in the game just after Zangief. WTF?

I think my second character will be El Fuerte though - he's SO annoying if you master the range and type of his moves. ^^

Looks awsome.

PS3 or 360? If there's one human I sorta know in the UK with the game I may be tempted to buy the thing. Otherwise I'd be trying to get connected with Japan all the time I'd hate to see the Lag I'd get from that.

The Necromancer (4970)
Ha, ha - I met my first cheater today, I think. It's reasonable to assume that people who know where to download games also know where to download cheats.

Anyways - the connection was green, the match wasn't stuttering or anything BUT I couldn't do anything - NOTHING - no attacks came out, and I don't mean special moves - even light punches or light kicks. I could only shuffle slowly left and right. Two perfects against me since the guy didn't seem to be affected by lag at all - and he played with Vega, the worst character in the game. Hmmmm... ;-)

Ah - and I love people who play SFIV on like 486 CPUs. Another thing Capcom didn't consider. I played a GREEN match today where everything was moving at like 2 frames a second. I'm not kidding. I had similar matches before but this was the slowest of them all. To execute moves you had to split the input into 1-second parts. Ha, ha, ha!

Nevertheless I found a guy with whom I had many, many cool matches. Perfect connection and VERY similar skill level. He was slightly better than me, at least with certain characters since I didn't play Sagat - with Sagat I could beat him easily. ;-)
We had some absolutely hilarious El Fuerte mirror matches. Nobody knew what was going on but I think I understood the moves a bit better since I went through some trials with this character today.

The Necromancer (4970)
I know the tiers and Dan is a joke character. The Japanese arcade release doesn't have Sakura and I only trust Japanese pro players to establish any kind of tier lists. Even disregarding everything else Vega IS the worst character in the game in my personal opinion.
The tier list is only valid if you use Vega "properly" and that would be not doing virtually anything besides his pokes (regular crouching attacks) since all his special moves except for the occasional drop-down with the claw (alternatively a throw - same move, different ending) are utter crap - a character you can't win with if you use special moves? Ridiculous! Even Dan and Sakura are not that way however bad their match-ups might be. Let's not forget that Vega can also lose his claw after several blocks which makes him deal less damage and have less reach and also his mask which makes him receive more damage - he can pick them up but the enemy can also deny Vega this opportunity. Utter, utter crap.

The Necromancer (4970)
You don't need to do the full d, df, f motion for quarter circles on the keyboard. Just do d, f, d, f and the 3x attack button. It's probably easier on the keyboard than it is on a stick. :-D

And the Lariat isn't an instant-win move - there are SO many things that beat it, including Sagat's infamous HK - you just have to know what you're doing. ^^
The main PWN attacks of Zangief are the Green Hand (especially the EX variety), the Body Splash and the Piledriver.

I'm trying with Ryu for some time to do a Shoryuken FACD and then Ultra but it's too many buttons for a small amount of time :| Managed to do it only once so far... Like 1,5sec for doing FACD and Ultra :?
And I'm using a gamepad. I'm trying with the analog stick now. Much easier to do the combos.

I've played the Mortal Kombat series for years as a kid going to LAN parties, on the keyboard only. I should be doing allright with all the combo-keys. (remember mk brutalities? :P That was like playing a piano) Actually, I remember drewing a numpad with a crayon on my desk at school so I could practice during the boring classes. :P

Can't wait to give this a try.

Dude - why start with Shoryuken FACDs if these are quite advanced techniques? What you should master first is the range, priority and correct usage of all standard attacks and special moves. What good will an SRK FACD into Ultra (ha, ha - technobabble FTW) do if any pattern jump-in -> sweep guy will be able to beat you? ^^

I played MK on the keyboard quite a lot too. The Street Fighter series are quite different input-wise. I would invest in any kind of gamepad if I were you - they come in handy for a wide range of games anyway.

I think with enough exercise you can do just fine with the keyboard to, actually i heard that some combos are easier done with the keyboard than with a gamepad  . Tomorrow is the big day, can't wait. :D :4
