Just wanna check if anyone have had a similar problem. So here's what happens: TF2 freezes out of the blue, and loops the sound from the last second or so. And it takes a while, ranging from a few seconds to something like 10 or more, but it will eventually unfreeze. Though if it was a short freeze nothing noticeable happens, and the game continues like normal. However, if it was a long freeze, the most of the textures are all messed up, like some texture pointers went haywire or something. Anyway it looks something like this:

Demoman just escaped prison... or is it perhaps truly the Avenging Zebra?! SEBAS TRUE FORM?! o0 :O
Just wierd.
This is my favorite; for some reason Mopp is here. But when I tried to find the other player names I failed. Still funny :D
I like the warm colors, so cozy and friendly
No, it's not my score you should look at :/
Also just wierd :/
Since the game continues to run like normal - besides the messed up textures - and can happen relatively soon after starting up TF2 or after two hours, makes me think it's not overheating.
I'm currently directing my suspicions to my AV-software, that politely informs me that my virus signature database has been updated when I exit TF2 to reboot it and solve the texture issue.
Still I'm not certain, since my AV and OS is installed on a different physical drive than TF2 and really shouldn't hinder the AV program to update it files without interfering with TF2? I'm no expert in computer systems though, so I really wouldn't know.
Haven't noticed anything in any other game, but then again, I don't play that many games besides TF2.
Just wanna know if anyone of you have encountered the same problem or know what causes it.
Input appreciated.

Wow ... that pretty weird, especially the text on ground.

Never seen anything like that so can't help but it looks funny and I want checkbox in options to turn this on

Few random ideas: Are you running the latest drivers? Tried some benchmarks for mem/gpu stability? Try to turn everything running in background (including AV) off and play like that, does it also happen?
EDIT: Oh, also ... do you remember when did this happen? What changed at that time? Was it after TF2 update, your pc HW upgrade, installed some apps or whatever?

I've had the exact same problem, Chad (posted a couple of months ago). Now I'm sure you'd love to know how I fixed it. Well, I don't know exactly what I did. I messed around a LOT with the .cfg for the graphical options and somewhere along the changes the problem stopped. If you want I could give you my .cfg so you can try it out and see if you get the freezez again.
It could've also been fixed by one of the directx or driver updates I did when installing newer games.
Multicore support was my guess back then but seeing as you're getting these freezes now, after the valve updates, I guess that's out of the question.

Hmm... now when i check nVidias page I see they got new drivers since 2nd July, just a few days old :o Can't hurt to try em out.
First time it happend was a few moths ago at least, maybe more, my memory sucks >< Not sure what may have caused it. But I'm gonna try out the new drivers for my gfx card (it's a leadtek Winfast PX9600 GT extreme s-fanpipe if that gives you any further ideas btw) and disable the AV automatic updates. But it certainly couldn't hurt to check your cfg either Sebas if you'd mind sending/posting it :)

Wehehe.

They need a setting for this so you can turn it on and off as you wish.

That just looks awesome!

Looks like driver(s) or overheating problem to me. Also try deleting ( first do a backup of course ) your configs, launch game so it will create new ones and see if it helps.

Do you have multicore rendering enabled?

Also it could be caused by an application shitting up your ram. Try playing with everything disabled and antivirus shut down with all unnecessary services stopped.

Yea, multicore is enabled, could it be causing this?
Switched my AV to only update once a day instead of checking every hour and installed the new nVidia drivers. Gonna see if it happens again, can take a while since it's a rather rare problem.. but still a problem :<

There you go.

Amyl was kind enough to answer that for you Amyl.

Now say thanks to Amyl.

And stop stealing medication from the hospital.

I'm confused now McMoist! :O

But as mentioned, I don't think it's overheating, since I'm able to play
it just as fluidly as before the textures messes up themselves. As well
as the seemingly random timing of the appearance of the textures, it
can happen after maybe 10 minutes, or after 2 hours, but most of my
TF2 sessions (which I approximate to a 2 hour streak in average) do
not suffer from this problem. It might happen once every three weeks
or so, sometimes even less, sometimes 2 days in a row.
If it was a heating problem it would have roughly occurred after the same
time of gaming when the GPU would've heated up enough. I think, or hope,
I have a fairly ok ventilation of my comp atm. Can try to post some
temperature data in a while, I got no real idea of where the temp is supposed to be.
