Well - if you were wondering why I wasn't idling on the fake idling server for the last 24 hours - here's the reason:

My trusty GeForce 8800GTX died on me. First the fan failed and then the memory was quick to follow.

Have no fear - I fetched an ATI Radeon HD4850 as a temporary solution until I buy my new computer in a few months. That's the first time since 1998 that I put such a shitty card into my PC - even though it's faster than the 8800GTX it's still a mid-, if not low-range model by today's standards and I always go with the notion of buying the second best thing available on the market (since the best thing of the market is always overpriced ;-).

Strangely enough that's the second thing that failed on me just a few months after its warranty expired - first the RAM (just a couple of weeks after the warranty expiration date ;-) and now my graphics card... I wonder what will fail next - it's obvious that hardware manufacturers make their products intentionally low-quality so people buy new ones sooner. ;-)

These are all signs to me that I need to throw my current machine out the window since I hate upgrading PCs part-by-part...
