A'right guys.

Basically, I've got this problem with all streaming video. Whenever I try to watch something, it will only buffer about a quarter of the way and then stops dead. And this is everything from BBC I-Player to Youtube and frankly, it's starting to piss me off.

Could anybody shed some light on what it might be?

Cheers.

Maybe it has something to do with maximum cache size set too low? Not be very likely, but I suggest you check it anyway.

Maybe you'll have to switch back to paper magazines for your porn?

Codecs may be an issue, but if you can play picture and audio for the part you have downloaded then probably not. I would have thought you'd have to set your buffer really low for it to fall over on everything.

I guess it wouldn't be anything firewall related if you can make the connection in the first place. Have you checked the integrity of the connection as packet loss seems more and more likely?

Whatever this is, is also happening for downloads now.

They all start off at normal speeds and then after a short time they all drop to around 10 kb/s.

I dunno what's going on.

Perhaps your router is dying or rejecting connections?

I had a D-Link router once that was getting clogged up by incoming connections pretty quickly, which proved to be major drag and made using torrents very much impossible.

You could see if there's a firmware update available for your router... Which one do you have, by the way? If it's a cool one that you can flash with e.g. DD-WRT or Tomato, then I could guide you through the process, since these firmwares ROCK. (Of course I'm assuming that the router turns out to be the problem here)

Contacting your ISP is sometimes useful in troubleshooting these problems, unless they have a crap support system.

I would actually do it before spending hours your end trying to find out the problem.
