Mirror's Edge is particularly excellent mate, and can be quite exhilarating too.

It won't take you long to breeze through but I guarantee you'll enjoy it while it lasts.

Not to mention it's beautiful to look at.

I liked Mass Effect.
Nice story and a good mix of RPG and shooting, a bit too short though. But they're already working on a sequel as far as I know :)

Oh! Just remembered one more game I really liked; Dead Space!
Awesome survival game, it's like RE4 but in space station setting :D

* Drakensang: The Dark Eye - Great old school RPG in the Dark Eye world made in Germany
* Just saw that Sacrifice was added to Steam... it's old and really crazy... never got the gameplay.
* Universe at War: Earth Assault - nice RTS with quite unique factions

I've played the PS3 version which is idenitical and I really enjoyed it, certainly on a par with the first one. Its about the only western theme game I've ever played that any good.

The story is well written (i.e. a good bubble gum western) and the voice acting (especially Ray- for trekkies out there its the guy that played Gul Dukat in DS9) is top notch.

Its nearly all linear but very enjoyable (TBH I'm getting a bit bored of free roaming games so this was a nice change). If you were to ignore a couple of stages that have optional quests (about 7 quests in total) it will take around 6-7 hours to complete.

The Necromancer (4970)
Nooooooo - not Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Broken ass piece of shit game with retarded (if fun for the first 5 minutes) kick mechanics, moronic story, laughable voice acting and an annoying control scheme. I'm on a personal vendetta against this game. ;-)

In addition to what others said (no particular order, not going back farther than 2005):
  • The Chronicles of Riddick (ONLY if you haven't played it on initial release since the "Dark Athena" part is half-assed and not worth it)
  • Sam & Max Season 1&2
  • King's Bounty
  • Devil May Cry 4 (I dig that shit - gamepad required ^^)
  • Lego Batman/Star Wars/Indiana Jones (love the recent Lego games :-P)
  • Prince of Persia (the newest one; only to a lesser extent)
  • Call of Juarez (the first one)
  • Jade Empire
  • Gears of War
  • Dreamfall: The Longest Journey
  • Hitman: Blood Money
  • Gun
  • Star Wars Republic Commando (for some reason this holds a special place in my heart - uninspired but immensely smooth shooter)
  • Dungeon Siege 2
  • Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy
  • Psychonauts
Indie stuff:
  • World of Goo <- ABSOLUTE MUST-HAVE
  • Time Gentlemen, Please!
  • Zeno Clash
  • Trine
  • Braid
  • Aquaria
  • Mr. Robot
  • Weird Worlds: Return to Infinite Space
I bet with all the suggestions in this thread you'll be back to square one, since with so many of them it'd be hard to catch up quickly, if you haven't played most of these titles already. ;-)

I assure you, they're not. Especially since I used a list of releases by year to remind myself of worthy titles. ^^

P.S. Speaking of Space Invaders - Greasy has a Nintendo DS and Space Invaders Extreme is a very nice game, probably my most played game on the DS - released in 2008. :-D

Sighs...
I remember playing the original Space Invaders with my Dad in a Pub Garden (inside a outside area) - 10p ago. Brilliant. I must of been about 10 or 11 years old. Seems like only 3 or 4 years ago

I couldn't get into mirrors edge for some reason. when it worked, it was awesome and it flowed brilliantly, but when it didn't it was just too clunky. not to say that it isn't worth a look, cos it was definately interesting enough to warrant a recommendation.

...this thread made me realise just how few offline single player games I have for the pc (i.e, almost none :ugly: ). 'N' is an awesome timewaster of an indie game and it's hard as nails, definately worth a download if you like your oldskool platformers. and it's free!

I had no idea that currency was now a measurement of time.

Saying that, with inflation being the way it is nowadays, it must seem like a lot longer. Maybe a Fiver ago?

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm meeting my mate down the pub at Quarter Past £11.80.

Just finished call of juarez - bound in blood, and it was pretty awesome... I skipped all the side mission crap cos I didnt have the will power to be arsed, which is why i liked the whole linear game kinda thing it had going on. Only managed to sink 4hours and 51 minutes of time though :*( still a thoroughly awesome game..

Mass Effect or Mirrors Image next, depending on which falls into my lap first :)

Mass Effect was alright and everything but it just didn't feel like there was a great deal else going on apart from the main story.

I certainly enjoyed it while it lasted though.

The Necromancer (4970)
Psychonauts is there - I loved it - I even got it on Steam.
Darwinia - weeell - I liked it, I ordered the original boxed copy, however, I'm not sure it's a game I can universally recommend to mainstream gamers - it has its quirks.
