Is this in response to a news article or did you visit recently?

Next question is which part did you visit. Some parts look all modern and nice. Some parts look medieval. Some parts are "3rd world but nice" (like - I could retire here and live like a king with these simple folk). Some parts they still run after the buses throwing spears.

Aha, but ALL of the areas I described can be found in some part of London (and in some cases at certain times of day. Mouth-breathers for example tend to dominate twighlight/evenings in some areas dominated by more normal folk during the day. In other parts of London, the mouth-breathers ARE the normal folk :? )

I do like your trams, I must admit.

Can I justify moving somewhere because of improved public transport though?

Oh, and I also like how you can cycle places without people hurling abuse and throwing bottles at you. That's pretty neat.

When I visited London last year, I really got the feeling that this was a police state.
Cameras everywhere, security guards on every corner and in every shop and lots of signs telling people what to do.
Also, the government must really think the people are stupid, because they think they have to remind everyone to "mind the gap" hundreds of times per day.
The atmosphere was kinda depressing tbh.

English people find a depressing atmosphere fun.

Yeah the UK generally sucks for everything you could possibly want to do. There are nice and crap parts of London though, maybe you were unlucky.

good bits of the UK I've been to so far include the Cotswolds, which is very very pretty indeed, and Glasgow which is alot of fun even if it does have a bit of a reputation and some nasty bits.

yeah that's pretty much it. Edinburgh was alright I guess.

Come to Glasgow. We mask that depression by drinking copious amounts of alcohol then brutally assaulting each other.

And we pretty much just ignore signs. Most drunk people do.

'Left turn only? Fuck that! My house is fuckin' right ya prick!'

It's cool though, there's no head on collisions. Everybody is defying the sign so they're all going right.

Why do you think so many of the stats top players are form the UK. It isn't always safe to go out and there is **** all to do when you're out there = stay in, play TF2.

I didn't really like London either. It was too chaotic, and as demm said, there were too many policemen and cameras everywhere. Also, I didn''t like the feeling in most districts. It didn't feel right for a European city....

My favourite European city is still Berlin :)

My favourite city is Sydney (Australia), followed by Edinburgh (although this may be heavily influenced by fond memories of Leith). Dublin was nice once I got away forn the main tourist drag. Funny money land was nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.

I don't know wether the UK is depressing me or its just I haven't moved in a long while but it does seem to be drab at times

Here's my favourite cities:

Tokyo
Brno
Vientiane
Reykjavik
Edinburgh

I've lived in three of these and have made semi regular visits to the other two... I will say this as I generally dislike the UK the only place I've been thats worse was the US.

OH and Stoke-on-Trent is worse than the worst places I've been, even Cambodia hell even New York.

You say you generally dislike the UK, yet one of your top five favourite cities is in Scotland?

Is Edinburgh the only reason that you 'Generally' dislike it? Is it the saving grace of our wretched little Isle?

Something like that, there are some eally nice places to stay in the UK, but as far as cities go Mancherster, Birmingham, London, Leeds, Stoke, Southampton, Plymouth, Swansea, Newcastle, Hull, Bristol... need I go on? These places lower the tone where as a few notable exceptions pick it up. So yeah my general appriciation of the UK is way down.

As for Edinburgh, I've always had a really good time there when ever I've been (fringe or not) theres a very unique atmosphere to the city which I appriciate.

But you all seem to be naming Cities.... so most Cities are bloody awful. But I must say, where I am from in a little village in Wales it is beautiful, fantastic coastlines and right next to the sea.... so maybe forget those awful smokey disgusting Cities and visit some villages and towns instead, you may be pleasantly surprised.
