Nice read. I hope for revisited classes, preferably with some more slot options and tweaks, but seeing how it has taken them quite a while for the eight class updates and still has some road to cover to come full circle, I don't know if I it's realistic. I mean, constant content patches are awesome, but TF2 ain't no MMO with montly fees; is it really profitable for them? :/

I think they sell quite a lot during these updates and special events. They market it on steam pretty aggresively, and you have to realize that a lot of features they are working on for TF2 might get added in other future games.

Aye, that is true. Seems the new trend is to add some RPG into the FPS now, with titles like BF Heroes, section 8, Global agenda. Or so it seems from my PoV since it's these kind of games I'm looking for ^^
So yea, they're exploring a bit with the rpg part of it, and I like it :)
And it's true that they do addvertise it, with discounts and free weekends and the whole shebang at the class packs. Still, it would be nice to know the acctual numbers, if it's still self-profitable or not. Still, no matter the numbers the fact that they've made a great game and is still making it even better remains! So I'm hoping for the best :)

I thought Global Agenda was more like a mmorpg with fps elements :0

I have to admit I am also very happy about all the updates and very intereseted as to what the general TF2 plan at the Valve HQ is.
The way I see it right now they are just doing smart business by creating and sustaining a loyal customer base. This is and will always be great money and will also have your back covered when you get some flops in.
Trying out new ideeas is definetly one of the things they are doing with TF2 (this is not something they would have gambled with in CS) and, like Crovax said, the update packs do lead to a lot of buzz around the game, new sales and older players coming back. Considering the team working on TF2 must be very small (judging by the time it takes for an update pack to be released) I'm pretty sure it's good business even on the short, immediate term.

Again though, kudos to Valve for their work with this game. It's trully a model to be followed in the future.

You got me there ><
Maybe shooter with some RPG was wrong in that case, I think shooter/rpg hybrid is more along the lines of I was
looking for ;P

Just look at the Steam topsellers when a class update is out. TF2 is always in the top 10 and I'm pretty sure you have to sell a quite nice number of copies to get there. ;)

Yeah I think me and my buddie bought it during the Scout update, and I gifted it to another friend during the War update.
