Ok guys, I have a tiny problem right now :D

FarCry 2 is out tomorrow (I believe is already out on the PC lol) and I can't decide if I should go with the PS3 version (because I don't own an Xbox :| ) or the PC version

Right, the PS3.Trophies and, basically, good graphics, but:

-No friends to play online
-Map Editor can be a pain in the ass
-It's Ubisoft (MAJOR FLAW RIGHT THERE LOL)
-It is PS3 and probably will get bad textures and sluggish framerate
-70 Euros. WTF? (~110$)

Now, PC. Great controls, crazy map editor, cheaper than PS3 version and excellent online with (hopefully) someone from SpA :D But:

-I have a C2D E4500, 2Gb RAM and a 9600GT, and I would want the graphics to the max, but meh, probably medium or low settings
-I think that it has stupid DRM (SecuROM, those REALLY stupid 5 activations)

That's about it lol. What do you think? (I presume you guys hate the PS3 so you will pick the PC lol)

First person shooters are meant to be played with a computer.
If u dont own a HD TV it doesnt really matter if u play it with ur PC or ur PS3.
But just because of the controls I would buy it for PC.

If you have powerfull rig then PC ver, it should run on v.high at least ( based on peoples performances ). And 70 euros ? Wow that's a price, in Poland we have console games at launch for about 47-50 euros.

Yeah, 60 to 70 Euros on console games here in Portugal. On the PC it is like 20 to 30 Euros cheaper.

If u get it through Steam, there is no DRM.

But yeah it has drm.

join the revolution brother :P
http://www.defectivebydesign.org/

I've boycotted EA. :)

EDIT: apparently even the Steam version has a 5 limit installation?

lol... what a joke.

I bet within a week i can download it illegally and play it no problems.

Not that i will. ~_~

Well 60-70€ is standard for PS3 games here in Luxemburg and Germany too.
Don't know why you presume PS3 always has shitty textures..I think the graphics on PC and PS3 will not be that much different.
But you can show me the contrary!
And there are some guys here that own a PS3, including me! 8)
Anyway, have fun playing FarCry2 regardless which version you'll buy.

If your PC can't run it very well I would go for the PS3 version, but the PC version will obviously look better if your computer can handle it.

From what I've read, the PS3 version seems ok for the most part. There's some tearing, the framerate can stutter a bit (mostly when you move to a new area) and sometimes some sound effects can get cut off in a hectic gunfight.

Dunno why people cry so much about drm, every uninstall of the game gets you 1 installation back, so its only a case of some fatal system crash or sth.

Not true in all cases. Spore, unlike Bioshock, does not do that.

If u install Spore and uninstall it 3 times that's your lot, ring EA, be talked to like an idiot and it costs you to call them. (edit: they upped it to 5, that was EAs response to thousands and thousands of negative feedback)

The Necromancer (4970)
Uhm - yeah, but they changed it in a patch (in Spore) after much public unrest. :-D

By the way - one of developers from Stardock (Galactic Civilizations, Sins of a Solar Empire etc.) wrote a quite nice article about DRM from a devloper's and publisher's perspective (since Stardock does both).

http://draginol.joeuser.com/article/303 ... _PC_Gaming

Basically he says that piracy surely takes away some game sales (compared to if it were nonexistent) BUT using strict DRM mechanisms doesn't IMPROVE sales in any way - it might even lower them. Pirates will find a way around any system and by introducing retarded DRM mechanisms you're hurting your customers.
Overall his message is: don't think about how to stop pirates, think about how to attract customers.

Piracy has become the top excuse and scare among publishers nowadays even though there is absolutely scientific data to back up their moronic theories about everything.

Things like this:

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/10 ... illing-pc/

make me wanna punch somebody in the face. :-P

I am just saying that of the textures because generally, multiplatform games tend to suck more on the PS3(well, there are some that don't suck more. like Burnout Paradise and CoD 4), and it is Ubisoft, just looking at the first Rainbow Six Vegas... lol

What you don't seem to realise Staberas is that since we're playing a game we can happily hop into the rivers without a care in the world.

The AI characters are programmed natives however and they know that it is extremely treacherous to jump into the rivers in Africa. So instead of subjecting them to the extreme horror contained within, their bodies just have massive heart attacks to spare them. It kills them of course but at least it's quick. It's like when people fall from massive heights and die before they have even hit the ground.

Little do they know there is nothing even in the rivers in Far Cry 2.

Ah well. At least we can swim, blissfully free of the murderous intent of our pursuers.

We can swim, however I noticed that underwater we cannot see anything
You can see everything above the water when in, but you can not see a bottom and such, like in farcry/crysis.

Do you guys have this too, or has it to do with my settings.

I have everything om medium settings, running on 1920 x 1200

It sure looks like paradise though... dispite the various deserts... militia's constantly shooting at you....etc. etc.
