free and dead easy to use

for the non-techys, it's basically a free server you can connect to instead of the one your ISP provides. for me, this meant bypassing all the crap that comes from connecting to an AOL server.

I first set it up to get my xbox online using a shared internet connection with my pc (AOL getting in the way again, urgh), but it looks like it's actually reducing the load time and pings in several situations, including the specialattack servers

It's not possible it lowered the ping times. The only thing that can be faster is the translation between the domain name and the IP address behind it, so it could resolve website adresses quicker.

a quick ping test shows that it's a bit lower, but that might just be because it's quiet this time of day. I'll test it again later

Strange. I once used this, since TPBay now has been blocked in all Danish DNS.
It gave me a ping on the servers on 90, and I normally have 5-30 ping. It got fixed again after I removed it..

It's technicly impossible that a change of DNS server affects your ping. Your routing will stay the same, no matter what DNS server you use.

I dunno if it's just coincidence, but my ping was about 20-30 lower last night, on a full server.
