http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/9620 - Old but some may not know about it

LookItUp2:

Quickly look something up in wikipedia, a dictionary or whatever you like (its easy to add custom sites!). The result is displayed directly on the page.

Very useful, just highlight a word/sentence then press the assigned shortcut, a window will appear in your current window and shows the results for the shortcut you pressed (not replacing your page, just an overlay).

Adding your own custom searches

Adding your own is easy, just use the search function of the site you want to add, search for '[words]' then copy the url from your address bar and use this for the url in the LookItUp2 settings, for example:

http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=[words]&x=0&y=0

So if I highlight a word and press 'm' the imdb search function pops up in an overlay and shows the results to me, then if I have finished looking at it I just click on the original website I was on and it quits the overlay, awesome!

You know that you can add custom searches to your normal Firefox?

Go to a site with a search box, rightclick it, add keyword for this search.
Then all you have to do is write keyword stufftosearch in your adress bar. :18

Yes, I have that too, but it's faster to select+press one key than to type the whole word->select search engine-press enter. And it doesn't use an extra tab, which means more saved clicks, even if I use mouse gestures. :P
