Has no REAL life! (4896)
I was awakened from my slumber this morning by this sound ringing through the streets. And it wasn't quiet I can tell you.

I live near an old Munitions and Explosives Factory that still uses these for drills (Fuck knows why) When it wakes you up at 10 in the morning and jolts you out of sleep, it really tends to scare the shit out of you. Especially when you question whether you even heard it or not when it goes quiet, and then it's confirmed when it starts back up again. Suffice to say, it's not the best alarm I've ever heard.

Seriously. Explosives Factory. Get a new Drill Alarm please.

Oh, and I also live about 10 miles away from a Nuclear Power Station, so that was also a slight concern.

We have Air Raid sirens aswell. They aren't really used for air raids anymore, but to alert people to stay indoor and close all windows, during accidents involving chemicals or if toxic gasses are released from fires.

The air raid system covers every single square kilometer of the country, and they are always tested at 12.00 on the first Wednesday of march.

(You can hear a nearby siren in the background. The time difference between the two doesn't exist, but it simply due to the distance between the two sirens)

I would NOT want that on my roof!

Here they test it every 1st Monday of the month. The closest near my house is about 50 meters from my window. It makes a hellish noise if you're still sleeping. Otherwise it doesn't bother me :D

Testing it every week is just nuts. Once a year is fine!

Our sirens aren't located at fire stations, since most small communities doesn't have a fire station. Our sirens are usually located on schools, either on the tallest point of the school building or in a tower at the football fields.

Same here, those are normally located on schools or university, but the closest one for me just happens to be the firestation... And there's one siren in every part of the city.

...And yes, make it stop :23

I don't get why you would need to test it every week or month.

Ours is electronically tested every night at midnighly. They only need to test the actual sound once a year.

Psh. It would take a lot less than a Nuclear Explosion to knock down my house.

Maybe like, if a dog farted on it. That could do it.
