Yeah, yeah, this has been mentioned numerous times on the SpA forums but I only recently rediscovered the MOD. And you know what? I was like HOLY SHIT! I've been following PVK ever since HL1 and what started out as more or less a joke MOD has now evolved into probably one of the most advanced Source Engine MODs ever made. If it had more content it would be right up there with the (older) professionally made games.
The graphics are downright amazing for a fanmade MOD, the models and animations are top-notch, the UI is nice, the maps are beautiful and best of all the gameplay has been continuously polished, so it is very nice and beginner friendly at this stage. The melee combat mechanics are some of the best you'll see in any game with swings being tracked for their whole duration and not just a single impact point and so on.
There are quite a lot of maps with different gameplay modes now and the player base is solid.
I don't think I needed to say that it's a game about Pirates, Vikings and Knights duking it out with each other?
I'll organize a PVKII weekend when I have the time to do so for sure, since everybody can get it for free!

Played it a couple of weeks. The combat gets boring indeed.
I was happy tf2 picked up the eyelander (broadsword). I now get to behead in my favorite game.
