Lim when you were looking at gamespot, i WAS looking at porn as it seemed like a better waste of my time than reading a review of a subjective art form. And its not ignorance at all, as i said, i dont give a shit about reviews or reviewers, the only review i care about is the one i make, im not a child or some idiot that needs someone else to tell me what to buy and think then wrap it all up for me a put a big shiny gold star on it. No thank you. Which is why i really respect Yahtzee as he does reviews properly, i.e. doesn't care and has a nice healthy rant, and no stupid retarded pointless score number!
Plus if you watch the gamespot video, as in actually watch it, you can clearly see the guy is shit and cant even aim ffs, so some GENIUS down at gamesp...whatever the fuck its called, thought they would get some one who is used to review DS games about walking a puppy to play it.
Well - paying attention to reviewers and actually KNOWING about really famous sites existing are two different things.
Also, I don't think you should have such a loose attitude towards reviewers considering how they still are and always will be a major driving vehicle behind game sales - try selling a game that got a 1/10 on Gamespot, I dare you (even a 6/10 was the source of a major scandal, look below). If anybody could allow himself to be displaying such an amount of ignorance, hatred and/or indifference towards video game journalists it might be the common consumer who only risks losing like $30 on a shitty game he didn't fetch information on - for you game sales might be strongly connected to your employment or lack thereof, especially in times of a global crisis. ;-)
It is a bit of a personal matter since I am on the other side of the fence here, as you know, and honestly feel, like many of my colleagues, that I'm doing the public a service - not everybody can play all the games or download all the demos (which are usually even less indicative of the full game than a review) and that's where professionals who saw thousands of games and hence have at least a vague idea of a given game's quality come in. Games are an art-form, I don't deny that, but since it's also interactive media with a huge reliance on technology there are huge parts of any given game that can be judged 100% objectively - especially by comparing them side-by-side with other titles.
Don't get me wrong - Gamespot is a piece of shit and the editor might be a clueless moron too - to me only aggregate scores matter since they present an average - but that's all the more reasons for somebody to know the site and mourn how much influence they have (if you don't know about it, you can't fight it - as much as you think highly of your opinion it's THEIR opinion that will be listened to and published, not yours) and on the other hand not a reason to diss reviewers in general.
BTW Gamespot fired Jeff Gerstmann, who has been with them since the very beginning, a couple of years ago after he gave Kane and Lynch a 6/10 while Eidos was pumping money into having Gamespot's site plastered with ads - ROFL - I don't have any respect for any source of information that does something like that (hint: perhaps your publisher didn't bribe Gamespot's staff enough :-P).
P.S. 2.5/5 just came in from Gamespy, you heard about them, right? :-P
Very crappy review at that - seems like the guy who wrote it was in love with his own witty remarks and metaphors and didn't even bother to give, you know, actual arguments for the score he's given. Time and time again I am assured that printed magazines, while hardly anybody buys them anymore, have so much more journalistic integrity - you have to invest more time, money and effort to bring out a monthly issue while getting your opinion out on the Internet is SO easy, especially for the old websites like Gamespot or Gamespy who don't need to try too hard to attract people anymore since chances are people will stumble upon them via a simple Google query. Worth noting: type in video games in Google and Gamespot will be your first result. ;-)
Also, you'll be happy to know that I'm not reviewing AvP. ^^
