it is funny cause the table moves... and i haven't seen the film, but it doesn't look like rape...

EDIT: PLUS! humour is subjective as some people like toilet humour and other people actually get third deck humour.

Cool I shall watch it if you recommend it, but, very often, moving something from context can make it funny; especially in this instance.

Then why was it on a funny gif site 8) from the OUT OF CONTEXT clip, he doesn't seem very threatening...

Also, cardboard said i wouldn't find it QUITE as funny, i still find it funny, it's not like a its a scene from irreversible or something, chill out and stop being so bloody irrationally insensitive.

Because the web is full of idiots, people who find murder and real life gore funny.

Lady Vengeance is however a film full of dark humour that scene is the set up for some very dark moments.

in context ;)

Gozu was full of dark shit which made me piss myself, guess it's different senses of humour (i.e. I like chris morris and such), i don't think the act of rape is funny, but out of context that scene is funny because the table moves with the humping and the man is not violent towards the woman in the OUT OF CONTEXT scene REGARDLESS of the film it comes from and what happens next in the narrative, and cartoon rape like in southpark and such is hilarious, and I hate it when stupid people try to insinuate something else to feel smart or that they got one up on me.

Completely agree, the fact that it is robotic, you don't see anything wrong and the table moves in that way makes it look funny. Since it is out of context, for all we know it could be their way of having sex, however weird that is. It's just a film.

.

The fact is that that clip does show rape, not in the ultra violent and horrifically realistic way that irreversible does but rape all the same. What you seem to be suggesting is that its only OK to be offended by clips of rape if it was completely brutal and there was no hint of humour in the scene at all? Which would be beneath you so I hope that's just the way its worded. Violation is violation and OK maybe its that both me and anna are unable to separate the clip from context but Nadin who hasn't seen the movie saw nothing but rape there too.

The idea that rape is only a violent act is a misnomer I thought with your intelligence you'd be beyond indulging, rape is as much about mental control and violation as is it is about the physical. Its should also be noted that the people who seem most offended by the clip are at risk or have been involved with rape. I spent months of my life dragging young girls from brothels where they had been repeatedly raped, the fact they'd walked into the rooms willingly and often showed no outward signs of violence from their treatment made it no less rape. My best friend committed suicide 10 years after she was raped because of the rape, long after the signs of outward violence had disappeared. I make more jokes about rape and child abuse than anyone I know but I had to deal with both in a real life context.

I don't think anyone was being irrationally insensitive I think its interesting that there's a sexual disparity on how that clip is viewed though, and when you've seen it experienced it (and no I don't mean the film) its much harder to see anything funny in that clip than you think.

Well when i saw the clip, all i saw was some dude fuck some subservient housewife on the table, and the table moved of the frame. Which in that context is funny because it has the impression of, dinner over, sex now, pants off, hump hump hump very non-romantic. The only way you could know that was rape is if you had seen the film, or experienced something similar in real life. Nadin seeing rape without prior knowledge of the scene's context just says more about how own personal perception of the world.

The reason I bring up the violence issue, was OUT OF CONTEXT, with no violent elements to be seen in a short 5 second clip and no prior knowledge of the narrative before and after the scene, my mind doesn't instant wander to the possibility of rape, because the non-violent depiction of rape is a lot harder to convey in 5 seconds worth of footage. You don't have to condensed to me, i know not all rape is done through violent acts, but through fear and psychological bullying/manipulation as well.

Offending people was not my intention, i found the GIF funny - (but i dont find rape funny), so i posted it, because as minimoose said, it didn't not contain clearly visual elements of abuse and inappropriate images. People don't find everything posted on this thread funny, because everyone's sense of humour varies greatly. I for one fucking love really dark third deck humour like Chris Morris etc and the cruder stuff done by Frankie Boyle etc but some people don't. I just don't appreciate people making snap judgements, and making remarks that don't into account the subjective nature of different peoples perceptions.

She called it correctly, if you mean she's more perceptive, empathetic and accurate then sure I'll agree.

I guess again this has to do with experience and ability to read people and situations.

No sure and your right, I'm sorry I did and may well continue to. It seems however that you have no idea at all at the scale of personal pain you're walking into, its not a simple issue and I've said before that I find humour in there, but a lot of what you've written seems to belittle the trauma of an act experienced by an estimated 1 in 5 women world wide. You can suggest that out of context its funny but if we'd said that clip was used as court evidence of real spousal abuse, would it be so funny then? Don't get me wrong here I'm not saying that all things are to be taken that seriously or to that extent what I'm saying is context matters, it matters a lot more than you'd think it would especially about something so awful.

For context: I interviewed an 11 year old prostitute in cambodia who struggled for hours stuttering, stammering unable to find the words to describe the worst kind of abuse you'll ever hear she then lifted her t-shirt to show a massive curved scar, later, while alone, she cut herself turning the scar into the shape of a butterfly; I cleaned it and dressed the wound and she made joke about the pain flying away she was so calm and clear and precise that for the contrast and the relief we laughed, we nearly died laughing, not funny really but in that moment it was; out of context I found child mutilation as the result of rape and abuse to be funny.

Its not an easy subject to find humour in and it can't be done with any kind of cavalier attitude and the best thing to do when you have upset people is to apologise especially when its something that you seem to have the least experience of or have any real chance of experiencing in that way. Its a lack of empathy from (mostly) men about this that's terrifying. I can go on about it but I dont think its really productive too, maybe I'll write something about it someday.
[SpA]ProtectMyBalls wrote:

I honestly don't think anyone did, bar me and you. I apologise but there's a line for me and I doubt it was with malice of forethought or intent but it really pushed some buttons with me, and it crossed that line. I apologise for those comments and the condescending tones, you understand my reasons, I guess.

I spelt condescend wrong... :x

anyone who actually knows me properly, will know that i wasn't out with the intention of offending anyone, or going "HAHA RAPE IS FUNNY INNIT!".
But rape in certain minis-cue contexts can be funny (AND that scene had some elements of black humour which you can obtain from the simple framing of the shot and the timing - so that bullshit about her being more perceptive is completely subjective and another condescending again), especially in satire and in animations (family guy and south park). If i had seen the film i wouldn't of posted it, simple as that, but as i was ignorant of the context I got a different perception of the clip and found humour. But quite frankly, i really don't care. I didn't post an animated gif of some girl getting horribly raped, cut into bits then chucked into a suit case and then went THAT IS LOLZ!...

The point there was that you just assumed it was entirely down to her experience, you were equally dismissive of other peoples perceptions and condescending about it.

You're also the only one discussing satire the clip is neither nobody has any problems with satire or south park, their use of rape is usually metaphorical or as critique of an attitude in society that's often dismissive of rape. You post wasn't satire it wasn't cutting comment on society, you saw it differently fine but trying to take the moral high ground here is absurd.

Nice to see again you're suggest there is a scale in the barbarism of rape that can make it funny. Thanks for missing the point by some 50 or 60 miles. Rape is horrible. There is nothing more needed, and I hope you never find out how horrible.

Read the post in full at the very least I acknowledged your points and ended with apology. Read all that back and honestly tell me it was worth defending and you aren't being immature and insensitive.

And for the record I'd said that you didn't do it to offend.
