my concern is that 99 percent of people who will be warned/kicked for breaking this rule will be relative newcomers to minecraft and the server. dunno about you guys, but my first instinct when i got in the game for the first time was to dig a tunnel for the heck of it (that, and build a penis

). seems to be the way for most folks who pick the game up for the first time. so if one of their first experiences of the game, and of our server, is that some admin dude freezes them and then tells them off for doing it, their reactions will be:
1, thinking "what the fuck is going on?"
and 2, upon realising what offence they're being warned for, think that we're enforcing the most retarded rule ever
it's not the best first impression to give imo.
that, and i think that we have enough to deal with in terms of griefers. and though i'm not by any measure informed on the situation, the theory that dedicated griefers come into the server and use tunnels as escape methods for hit-and-run griefing is a bit silly; as far as i can tell, most griefers are either 1) 7 years old or 2) clueless. very few are intentionally malicious, i think. though i do think that the potential for 'accidental' griefing, why your tunnel comes out under someone's nice house, is very valid. unsure if it balances out the other stuff tho.
anyway. if i'm opening up an old can of worms, apologies. if there's some old dialogue on this and it's been dead and buried, don't let me drag it back up as i'm sure you guys came to the right conclusion. you're all much cleverer at online lego than me
