Sorry but I think Class Limits eliminate the fun of TF2, if I want to play a class i'm good at and enjoy, but can't because someone else is kind of eliminates the whole idea.
I for my part think that people sticking too much to one class are eliminating the fun for ALL THE OTHERS on the server, so there you have it. =)
I mean it's true that there a place for any class on any map and that people should specialize if they are going e.g. for competitive gaming where you have to choose the best player for each class BUT in FFA you should adapt to the current situation. I'm really annoyed if some "class trends" are developing on my team because then it is usually I, as the least stubborn player, have to choose a class I'm not feeling like playing right now. For example the Pyro update forced me to play LESS as a Pyro, formerly one of my most played classes (even though I'm spreading my gameplay time) because if there was even ONE smart engineer on the other team we would be just losing all the time and everybody was just too narrow-minded to choose anything else...
Class limits are just keeping the players in reasonable boundaries and FORCE you to think of the team instead of only yourself... I'd say we should make the class limits even more rigid for the Sniper and Spy... It's not that I dislike them or playing against them but I feel that an over-abundance of these two VERY SPECIALIZED classes hurts the team the most, unless you're as awesome as Frosty and cookye as snipers or HR_moggi and b0se as spies.
I'd propose a limit of 3 Spies and Snipers, NO limit on Soldiers and Demomen because they are basically universal "core classes" that can advance in any situation and a limit of 4 on all the other classes... It's not that there are more than 4 Medics, Engineers, Heavies, Scouts and Pyros too often anyway...
I'm not in the least bothered by losing a round if I know that my team has fought hard but I'm very, VERY annoyed when a defeat comes in like 5 minutes because some morons decided we need 7 Pyros and 5 spies on the team... That's when I usually quit or switch servers...
Some class-focused players are even worse in that they start racking up points only for themselves by e.g. sticking to some "point farming areas" for their particular class instead of advancing or switching to a more suitable class for the next map stage etc. This is what pretty much ruined CS FFA as a cooperative and tactical game most of the time.
the classlimit for pyro doesn't seem to be working, unless it got fixed real recently and I didn't notice yet xP
SpA members are excluded. ^^
Usually a team full of one class (especially snipers) won't do that well.
Precisely! And I'd HATE to end up in such a team... Some people are, however, reluctant to switch to anything else because they may be racking up points even though their team is losing or simply like only ONE class (which is ridiculous, IMO, because all the classes are so balanced), so why should they care? Class limits enforce people to think outside class boundaries and think about the team as in
TEAM Fortress. =)
