The Necromancer (4970)
They can't remove the old items. There's no way they could identify them. They only introduced anti-idling measures for the future although their effectiveness is still questioned (the fake items that weren't deleted by the program).

"Meanwhile, everyone who took the moral high road will soon be finding a new hat in their inventory." :4

Glad I was away for almost 2 months otherwise I would have probably idled.

Edit: Wat 800 kills :(, I'm a stat whore deep inside and am very displeased by this! At least the stat page still shows the right amount.

Weird, I only tried out the idler once for about 15 minutes when it first came out. Haven't used it since, but still, I didn't get the new hat. So I guess Valve found a way to know who's been using the program even right from the beginning.

the hat is not in the loadout, select a character and click on head, there I found it (I noticed that loadout says "one intem in inventory" at demo ant that was suspicious, that's how I found it)

Ooh - nice I've lost all my unlocks since I've been replacing items with the auto-delete option. I literally have like 5 unlocks across all characters now. Well, another reason not to go back to TF2. ;-)

Maybe if they didn't have a completely retarded system then all this wouldn't have been a problem.

Make getting the hats difficult, not complete chance.

Honestly. Since when has playing computer games been about chance? Well, unless they're designed like that specifically, like gambling simulators or some stupid shit like that. Award people for meeting criteria. Even if it's hard as fuck. At least then you can wear that hat and people will look at you and say; 'Dang. He be hot shit y'all'

Not; 'Oh. Hey. I found a hat. I was just standing here, healing this Heavy cause that's what the TF2 Medic tips on Youtube told me to do. It's a Pyro hat. I've not played that class yet, but when I do. I'll be wearing that hat'

Hell. I've only been playing TF2 since October 30th 2007. And my most played class is Pyro, by a long fucking shot but hey, why should I get a hat? Any hat? Why should I? I clearly haven't earned it.

Yup, also, I'm pretty sure that their TOS excluded things like aimbot and esp's but never said anything about a program like this (since it doesn't give you an advantage in gameplay). So by them removing the items received by this idler they are being dicks by enforcing a rule then taking away the things before the rule was even in place.

It's a 20 year old having sex with a 19 year old, then a day later the government move the legal age of sex to 20, then they apply the rule to him and send him to prison. Yeah it only effects 0.0000001% of the worlds population but it's still a shit way of enforcing rules.

Nah, it's always been forbidden to use third party programs to hook into Steam. It is in the EULA somewhere.

Like I said - I have no problems with Valve punishing idlers like that. I just find it a bummer that I didn't even get anything through Idling and lost the items that I had BEFOREHAND. But in the end it doesn't really matter - I haven't played TF2 for months now. ;-)

Why would they say:
Quote:
We're going to adopt a zero tolerance policy for external applications used to manipulate the persistent item system.
Or did they just not bother enforcing the policy before? Either way this quote is wrong.

So... When the trade system kicks in - I can give someone my halo?
:4

The only hat I have is the football helmet. Given that I very rarely play heavy, it is less use than a chocolate fireguard*. Also - I accidentally deleted all my Kritzkriegs and I play medic alot. I am now at the mercy of random chance to get it replaced (why is it I kept getting huntsman/kritz when I already had them but now I want them I don't) until the trades kick in.

PS - At least they only deleted items gained by idling. That (almost) puts it back on a level playing field with the non-idlers - except for the loss of items where the "originals" were deleted to free up backpack space.

PPS - Why was the medal for the first people to find a hidden site? Valve and anyone they tipped off + their mates get a medal? Surely giving it to something more specific (like most [insert relevant class here} hours in game or similar) would have been more appropriate. </bitch>

*at least you could eat the chocolate

i heard that the halo is cloak proof (cant confirm myself) but its probably a bug they will fix eventually...

personally, the halo will make headshots a) easier and b) a lot more fun
